Welcome to all of the new families that have moved into the neighborhood over the last year! Involvement in your community is very important to the success of the Association. The easiest way to be involved is simply to attend neighborhood board meetings which are held every 2nd Sunday of the month at 7:00pm at the clubhouse. Your attendance, opinions and input are the backbone of our community. We hope this newsletter offers some helpful information for our 261 homeowners.
TENNIS COURTS...Bids were requested last year for repairs/reconstruction on the tennis courts. Unfortunately, all quotes came in around $50,000-not an option for our association. If you have any ideas, leads or input on the courts, please contact Kevin Keith at 734-5760.
BLOCKWATCH...Until we have enough volunteers to help with Blockwatch, we will not be able to reorganize the program for this year. This is a very important program for increasing security awareness in our neighborhood. For your information, the Kansas City Police Department's website is: KCPD.org The North Patrol Division also has a website which you can report suspicious activity and leave comments (this website is checked once daily). The North Patrol website is : northpatrol@kcpd.org Please contact Jocelyn Keith at 734-5760 for more information regarding Blockwatch help.
POOL/OPEN HOUSE...Our 2002 pool season is only weeks away! This year we are having an open house at the clubhouse during pool key pickup. MARK YOUR CALENDAR--Thursday, May 9th from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. We invite all of our homeowners and families to enjoy hamburgers, hot dogs and drinks at the clubhouse (donations welcome). Thanks to Jim Upschulte for providing the meat for the event. Only homeowners in good standing can SIGN FOR AND PICK UP A KEY-no children or relatives will be issued a key. If Association dues are not paid in full, keys will not be issued. Many of you met Tara Micham last summer at the pool. Her bid for pool manager was accepted and we look forward to another successful pool season. The "pool key check procedure" that we implemented last year kept non-members out of our pool which in turn freed more chairs, gained pool space, and provided a more relaxing atmosphere for our homeowners. Remember this "members only" rule will continue to be enforced. Pool keys are a valuable commodity-when you receive your new key, put it in a safe place and keep up with it while enjoying the pool. If you are interested in swimming lessons, contact Certified Lifeguard, Laura DeFarkas at 734-4024. Contact Steve Flamez 734-7094 or Kevin Keith 734-5760 for any concerns regarding the pool.
POOL PARTIES...Normal pool hours are from 11:00am - 9:00pm. Because of homeowner interest, pool parties which extend "after normal pool hours" will be possible this year. The cost for parties from 8:00pm to 10:00pm is $125.00 and is limited to 50 people (including the homeowner family). A $50.00 non-refundable deposit will be taken upon booking. The party must be booked at least two weeks in advance. The remaining balance of $75.00 is due one week prior to rental. This fee is for rental of the pool and use of bathrooms only-clubhouse rental is a separate fee. If adverse weather occurs, a rain check will be made available for a later date. The adult homeowner who is renting must be present and responsible for the entire party. A lifeguard will be provided to cover the party. For liability concerns, no alcohol is allowed for parties after hours. The renting homeowner will be responsible for cleanup and disposal of party waste. For parties "during normal pool hours", the cost is $25.00/hour. Payment is due at booking (seven-day advance notice needed). The maximum number of guests allowed is 20 (including the homeowner family). As above, the adult renting homeowner must be present during the event and is responsible for cleaning up and disposing of party waste. Contact Tara Micham at 516-9234 for bookings.
GARAGE SALE...Thank you to Stephanie Hummel for organizing our neighborhood Spring garage sale!!! And thank you to all homeowners who participated.
GROUNDS... Saturday, June 8th, 2002 will be the day for the "Clean Sweep program for our neighborhood. We will be requesting dumpsters for brush and leaf removal, so homeowners can properly dispose of them. The dumpster should be located in the clubhouse parking lot from 7:30am- 1:00pm, OR UNTIL THE DUMPSTERS ARE FULL. We are in need of volunteers! We need at least two volunteers to help monitor and coordinate the activities. Also, we would like to have volunteers to help with cleanup around the clubhouse grounds and greenway on Saturday, June 1st so we can have the brush ready to go in the dumpsters when they arrive on June 8th. We will be mowing the areas around the clubhouse/pool more frequently than the greenway. When the greenway is mowed, it may take two or three days for the entire area to be completed as it is typically one person doing all the mowing and it takes time to mow approx. 11-12 acres. So please be patient when you see one end of the greenway mowed and the other end is not yet completed. As a reminder, 4-wheelers, ATV's, go-carts, etc. are NOT permitted to be driven in the greenway. Please contact Mark Reichert 734-8667 for more information regarding grounds and to volunteer for the above needs.
WEB SITE...New Mark officially has its very own web site! The address is: www.newmark-brooking.org. [Webmaster's note: URL updated] This site includes information about our neighborhood including restrictions and any upcoming events that affect our community. Please check the site often. Since we are now online, you will be able to pull up newsletters along with any information that before required a timely and costly mailing. If you have any questions, comments or possible additions to the site, contact Eugene Gruhler 734-9547.
RESTRICTIONS...Included in this newsletter is a "Violation of Restrictions" form. If you are reporting a violation, this form MUST be completed and the complainant MUST attend an Association meeting to discuss the alleged violation in detail. As a reminder, boats, non-operational vehicles, and trailers are not to be stored on our property. Also listed in the New Mark Declarations and restrictions is the general upkeep of homeowners property-this would include weed control, lawn mowing, refuse disposal, etc. For information, contact Don Schultz 734-2637.
LOST & FOUND...One set of car keys with photo key chain of man and two teenagers. Another set of car keys-GM. One small camera with case. Please call Lori Reichert 734-8667 to describe and claim the item.
