PO Box 10646 Kansas City, MO 64188-0646 Spring 2000
Welcome to all of the new families that have moved into the neighborhood over the last year! Involvement in your community is very important to the success of the Association. The easiest way to be involved is simply attend the meetings which are held every 2nd Sunday of the month at 7:00pm at the clubhouse. For the most part, Board members and those positions important to the Association are volunteers-no special training or expertise needed....just concerned homeowners who want to take part in keeping our community alive and home values UP! Your attendance, opinions and input are the backbone of our community. A special thank you to past board members, Don & Carol Lauf and Bob Clements for all of the time and effort devoted to their responsibilities. We hope this newsletter offers some helpful information for our 260 homes.
CLEAN SWEEP... June 10th, 2000 Clean sweep will be held in our neighborhood. The following are areas that will be addressed:
* Leaf & brush removal: Two dumpsters will be located in the Clubhouse parking lot from 8am-1pm. The dumpsters will be removed at 1:00, so please be aware that after that time no dumping in the lot is allowed since we have no way of disposing of it. We are looking for two adults to monitor each dumpster. Please contact any Board Member to help out.
* Free mulch: The city will provide 40 cubic yards of FREE mulch which will be deposited in the Clubhouse parking lot. The mulch will be available June 1st on a first come/first serve basis.
* Street drains: The city is willing to clean the street drains that we are having a problem with. If you know of such a drain, please notify one of the Board Members. A reminder that storm drains are to be kept clean of excessive (intentional dumping) leaves and papers so that when the rains hit, the drains are able to accommodate the huge amount of runoff. DO NOT use these drains as yard waste disposal!
* Street sweeping: The city will provide us with dates that the sweeper will be in the neighborhood. On these dates it is requested that if you have a vehicle curbside that you move it into a driveway so that the entire street will be cleaned.
* Tree pruning: The city will be taking care of any PUBLIC trees in need of pruning.
* Equipment, etc: The city will be providing bobcats, dumpster and trash bags so that the common area can be cleaned up. The city will be volunteering some manpower from the Municipal Corrections Institution. There will be a need for volunteers from our community on June 10th. Volunteers will have to provide small tools such as rakes, shrub trimmers and gloves.
The city is making an effort to help us with the cleaning of OUR NEIGHBORHOOD, now we need to make an effort to help ourselves by volunteering a little of our time on the 10th of June. Contact one of the Board Members to be listed as a volunteer to man the dumpsters or help with clean up. This clean up can only become a success with your help....it is our neighborhood.
WEB SITE.....At this time, we are working on a web site to represent New Mark 1st Pool Association. The Northland Neighborhood Association is picking up the expense of the first year of operation. We feel very positive about the upcoming web site for our neighborhood, which will enable you to e-mail Board Members, stay in touch with activities that are upcoming and subdivision information. It will also tie you into the City of Kansas City services all at one web site. As soon as we have more information about this site, we will be passing it on to you.
BLOCK WATCH.....Being part of the Black Watch Program is important to our community. It is being aware of what is happening in our community and when something is seen that is out of the ordinary, calling the police at 911. The KC Police Dept. also has a phone tree for sending out messages to a whole community at one time. This system has been down for a few months, but expect to have it up and running again in July. There are a lot of new families in New Mark since the last update of phone numbers. It is our wish that everyone be listed on this phone tree. Please call 734-8008 and give your number to Carol Lauf; your number will be kept in confidence. Please make this a priority so that you will get all community and Police messages.
CLUBHOUSE.... It is a great place to have a party or meeting. There is a living area, full kitchen, stereo system, deck and tiled floor area for dinner/dance. A smaller meeting room is also available to rent. Call Rick Head 734-9019 to reserve a rental date for your get-together.
POOL....Pool Manager is Dorene Henry 734-8741. Thanks to New Mark volunteers, Dorene Henry, Kevin Keith, Joe Pierre, Rex Reed, Tom Simmons and Rick Head, the pool has been repaired and freshly painted which saved the association substantial money on needed repair. Our expected open date is May 27th; however, the temperature of the pool water MUST be at least 70 degrees for swimming. Pool hours will be 11:00am-9:00pm daily. For pool parties, or if you missed the pool key pick-up, contact Dorene Henry 734-8741.
WATER AEROBICS.... Please call Laura DeFarkas if interested in water aerobics this summer, 734-4024. If there is enough interest, class times will be listed at the pool.
GROUNDS....Please contact Tom Simmons if you have any questions or comments on the greenway maintenance.
RESTRICTIONS....If you have any questions concerning restrictions contact any board member (see names attached).
